Iowa's Senator Harkin Easily Defeats Reed

Sen. Tom Harkin is the first Iowa Democrat to win a fifth term in the U.S. Senate.
 
Harkin, who turns 69 later this month, easily defeated Republican challenger Christopher Reed, 36, of Marion.
 
Harkin received 63% of the votes with 930,426, while Reed received 556,205 votes, representing only 37% of voter support.
 
Harkin was first elected to public office in 1974 and has been a member of the U.S. Senate since 1984.
