Tactics
for Community Action Plan Discussed
Posted 10 November 2008
The next meeting for the Allamakee
Team of the NE IA Food & Fitness Initiative (FFI) will be Thursday,
Nov. 20, from 4:30 - 6 p.m. at the Allamakee County Extension office in
Waukon. The agenda is available on the website at
www.iowafoodandfitness.org – click on County Planning Teams.
For the past year, the Regional Team and its nine work groups have been
working to gather information about NE Iowa. During this same
time, area residents have participated in monthly county and regional
planning team meetings where they have learned information on built
environments, local food systems, school and work sites access to local
healthy food and spaces and places for play, and the importance of
policy to this work.
This month, the FFI Regional Team members will continue the review of
the draft of the Community Action Plan that will be submitted to the
W.K. Kellogg Foundation in August 2009. The Community Action Plan
will consist of Strategies (long lasting approaches), Tactics
(short-term approaches)and Activities (actions producing practical
results). In September, the county teams reviewed the draft
strategies. This month, the draft tactics will be discussed.
These strategies and tactics were developed based on the information
and data gathered during this planning period. Participants will
be asked to give feedback on the fit of the tactics to the long-term
vision for NE IA and identify activities to include in the plan.
The NE IA Food & Fitness Initiative is one of nine communities
chosen to be part of Food & Fitness, a national initiative of the
W.K. Kellogg Foundation. Their vision is to make Northeast Iowa a
unique place where all residents and guests experience, celebrate and
promote healthy locally grown food with abundant opportunities for
physical activity and play every day. Healthier people make stronger
families and vibrant communities. Counties included in this
initiative are Allamakee, Clayton, Fayette, Howard, and
Winneshiek. Complete minutes of all the county meetings are
posted at www.iowafoodandfitness.org.
