Makeup of Iowa House Still Unclear
Posted 10 November 2008
Several days after the election, questions remain about the makeup of Iowa's Legislature.

As of last Tuesday night, Nov. 4, it looked like Democrats would hold a 31-19 edge in the Senate and a 56-44 majority in the House, but those numbers could change depending on several races.

In one, Waterloo Democratic Sen. Jeff Danielson had a 13-vote lead over Republican challenger Walt Rogers after challenged ballots were counted. Rogers led by 90 votes on election night.

In Sioux City, Democrat Rep. Wes Whitead held a single-digit lead over Republican Jeremy Taylor as absentee ballot counting continued.

A least one leadership contest is shaping up, with Republican state Rep. Kraig Paulson of Hiawatha saying he'll challenge House Minority Leader Chris Rants of Sioux City.
