Utility Delays Power Cut-offs
Posted 14 November 2008
Alliant Energy announced this week it will delay cutting off power to former workers at the Agriprocessors meatpacking plant in Postville. Over 300 customers in the area are behind in paying their power bills.

Many former Agriprocessor workers face financial problems because they lost their jobs at the kosher meatpacking plant, the site of a major immigration raid in May.

Alliant Energy provides power and gas to most of Postville, which has about 2,300 residents.

A spokesman for Alliant Energy says state regulators asked the utility company not to cut any Postville customers off for at least a week.

Agriprocessors filed for bankruptcy last week.
