NICC, Dairy Center to Host School
Posted 14 November 2008
Northeast Iowa Community College and the Northeast
Iowa Community-Based Dairy Foundation will host an important and timely event for dairy producers, The Midwest Dairy Nutrition and Feeding School, on Tuesday, Nov. 25.

The dairy school, a daylong educational event from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., features industry experts, a producer panel and exhibits.

The school's primary focus is to share strategies on how to
implement quality and lower cost without impacting productivity.

The rising cost of feed is another topic for discussion, because of the challenge increased costs pose to dairy producers.

The school's speakers and topics include:

- "Overviews of ddgs and its Markets" with Ryan Sauer of
    Hawkeye Gold

- "56 Squares" with Bill Nelson and Clint Renken of Nelson
Dairy Consultants. There are 56 pounds of dry matter in a balanced dairy feed. Dairy producers will learn how to move those 56 squares while maintaining that important balance. Additional topics cover real life examples of dairy rations, such as gluten and corn feed, and using better forage to establish a cheaper ration quickly.

 - "Feeding for Production and Profitability" with Andy Mueller of Land O' Lakes Purina Feeds

 - "Proper Storage to Protect Your Feed Quality" with John
    Anderson of Mycogen

The effectiveness of the Midwest Dairy Nutrition and Feeding School will be enhanced by a panel of producers discussing "Selection, Storage and Use of Forages and Commodities on my Dairy" moderated by Dave Lawstuen, NICC Dairy Science chair.

A hands-on exercise will conclude the day.

Don't miss this opportunity for your dairy business. The Dairy Center is located on Highway 150, just south of NICC's Calmar campus, and is a dairy industry leader
that offers education, research and demonstration under one roof.

If you are a dairy business and would like to exhibit at the school, please check with Mary Steen for availability.
