Production Stops at Agriprocessors
Posted 18 November 2008
All production of Postville's Agriprocessors kosher meatpacking plant has been suspended, at least temporarily, according to a company spokesman yesterday, Monday, Nov. 17.

Officials said company executives were in New York for a bankruptcy hearing Monday but the plant hopes to resume production today, Tuesday.

The plant stopped processing cattle a few weeks ago but continued to process chickens until last week.

The company has struggled to survive since an immigration raid in May in which nearly 400 workers were arrested. Agriprocessors filed for bankruptcy protection earlier this month, and its former chief executive is in jail on federal bank fraud charges.
