H1N1
Activity
Lulls - Vacinations Available at VMH Next Two Wednesdays
Posted 18 January
2010
Overall influenza activity in Iowa and the United States has decreased
over the past month; 2009 H1N1 influenza remains at low levels, and
seasonal influenza has not yet been detected in the state. Veterans
Memorial Hospital Community and Home Care reminds residents there is
potential for both H1N1 flu and seasonal flu activity to rise and to
continue for several more months.
“We want to encourage more people to get vaccinated,” said Lisa Moose,
Director of Community and Home Care. “The H1N1 vaccine supply is
plentiful and all data from the Centers for Disease Control and
Prevention (CDC) continue to show the vaccine is safe.” To date, Iowa
has received more than 1,164,000 doses of the H1N1 influenza vaccine.
Veterans Memorial Hospital Community and Home Care will continue
offering the H1N1 vaccination each Wednesday afternoon in their
immunization clinic located on the upper level of Veterans Memorial
Hospital. The next immunization clinic is scheduled for
Wednesday, January 20, from 1:00-6:00 p.m. and again on Wednesday,
January 27 from 1:00-4:00 p.m. Please call to make an appointment
for your vaccination at 568-5660. All H1N1 vaccinations are given
FREE of charge.
The Iowa Department of Public Health states vaccination is the best
protection against getting sick with the flu. In addition, area
residents should continue everyday preventive actions, including
covering coughs and sneezes, cleaning hands frequently with soap and
water or a hand sanitizing gel, and containing germs by staying home
when ill. |
